The New England Philharmonic Chamber Players (consisting of a string quartet plus clarinet, bassoon, and piano) perform Bernie Hoffer’s vibrant score for Sherlock, Jr., Buster Keaton’s 1924 comic masterpiece. Originally commissioned by the Boston Athenaeum for a 2021 screening, Hoffer’s music brings fresh energy, color, and wit to one of the funniest silent films ever made.
Keaton’s dazzling blend of physical comedy, surreal storytelling, and groundbreaking special effects remains astonishing a century later. Paired with Hoffer’s inventive, richly textured score performed live, the film becomes an even more immersive experience—playful, propulsive, and full of heart.

Founded by NEP Concertmaster Danielle Maddon, the ensemble deepens the orchestra’s musical reach through performances that highlight both new works and intimate ensemble playing.
They are active partners in Boston’s cultural community, frequently performing at museums and libraries such as the Boston Children's Museum, Cape Ann Museum, the Peabody Essex Museum, and the Boston Athenaeum. These public events invite audiences to experience live chamber music in welcoming settings while expanding awareness of the New England Philharmonic’s mission and creative spirit.
